Sanctuary is a Canadian - American, fantasy-science fiction TV show. The show is basically an extension of the eight webisode series that was launched and sold on the internet in 2007.It has been created by Damian Kindler. The channel Sci Fi noticed the success of the web series and decided to go ahead with a thirteen episode season. The show is being continued for a second season as well.
Sanctuary revolves around the life and experiences of Dr. Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping) as she searches out for petrifying and scary creatures called as ‘abnormals’. While some of these creatures she has to protect from the people, there are creatures who can pose threat to the public at large.
Her team consists of her daring and wild daughter Ashley (Emilie Ullerup); her protégé Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne), the security and computer expert who is also a very talkative person other than being a geek, Henry Foss (Ryan Robbins) and her introvert and reserved assistant Bigfoot (Christopher Heyerdahl).
The show was first broadcasted in both Canada and the U.S. on 3rd October, 2008. The premiere was witnessed by about three million, thus making it the highest rated original premiere after Eureka, which had come on the Sci Fi Channel in July, 2006. The first episode was a two - parter “Sanctuary for All” and was derived from the original first four webisodes. All the star cast has been taken from the web series.
