Life
When Amanda was just three years old, she migrated with her family to Ontario, Canada where she went to North Toronto Collegiate Institute, excelling in drama and environmental science. In 1984, after finishing off from the institute, she decided to pursue drama and enrolled into University of Windsor School of Dramatic Arts, located in Windsor, Ontario.
Tapping resides in Vancouver, British Columbia, with her husband, Alan Kovacs and daughter, Olivia B. (Birth: 22nd March, 2005). She has two living brothers Christopher, her fraternal twin, who is a database administrator working in Toronto and Richard while her third brother, Steven died in December 2006.

Along studying theatrical arts after her graduation, Tapping worked on a number of stage productions and television ad campaigns.

In the early 90s, Tapping created a comedy troupe along with Katherine Jackson and Anne Marie Kerr in Toronto with the name, the “Random Acts”. For her work in Breakdown she also bagged the Canadian Comedy Award for Best Actress in 2007. She also directed a Stargate SG-1 episode name “Resurrection” which was the nineteenth episode of Season 7 and was penned by co-star Michael Shanks.
On stage she has performed in plays like: The Wizard of Oz, The Lion in Winter, Steel Magnolias (West End Theater), Look Back in Anger (1986), Children of a Lesser God (1987)
The Taming of the Shrew (1988), Noises Off and The Shadow Walkers.
Tapping is both the lead actress and the executive producer of the science fiction show Sanctuary, which was first released on the internet as webisodes.
In the show, she enacts the character of 157 years old, Dr. Helen Magnus, an English, scientific and medical researcher whose vocation in life is protecting as well as hunting the so - called Abnormals. She also is the head of an organization called ‘Sanctuary for All’ where shelter is provided to the Abnormals and also are studied and learned upon.
